What You Will Do

As a Clinical Social Worker at UCSF Health, you will work directly with high-needs adults who frequently use psychiatric services, many of whom are dealing with concurrent substance abuse or physical health challenges. Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Direct Patient Care: Providing continuous mental health services, including therapy, outreach, and crisis intervention.
  • Case Management: Efficiently managing a caseload of patients, preparing detailed written summaries, and tracking treatment progress within required timeframes.
  • Community Outreach: Conducting community-based case management, which may include outreach to local SRO (Single Room Occupancy) hotels and shelters.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Working seamlessly as part of a culturally diverse medical team in a high-stress, high-volume environment.

What You Need to Succeed

UCSF Health is looking for dedicated, highly reliable professionals who understand complex mental health issues. To qualify for this role, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Education: A Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field from an accredited school.
  • Licensing (CSW II): If applying for the CSW II level, you must possess the requirements necessary to apply for licensure as a Clinical Social Worker via the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
  • Core Skills: Excellent communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, detail-oriented report writing, and an understanding of psychiatric/medical terminology.
  • Physical Requirements: The ability to climb stairs and lift up to 50 lbs during community outreach.
  • Preferred Experience: 2+ years working with severely mentally ill, homeless, or dual-diagnosed populations; 1 year of experience working with African American clients; prior experience with community-based case management; and previous UC system experience.
